From rejection to recognition: Portia Gabor shares journey of hope
“You Will Bloom Again”: GJA Award-Winning Anchor Portia Gabor Shares Powerful Life Lesson on Seasons of Change

Award-winning news anchor with Media General, Portia Gabor, has inspired many with a heartfelt reflection on life’s shifting seasons, urging her followers never to lose hope in difficult times.
In a post shared on social media, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) laureate likened life to the cycles of nature, drawing a vivid parallel between trees that lose their leaves in the dry season and later bloom again with the rains.
“It never ceases to amaze me how some trees come back to life after a dry season,” she wrote. “Just like the tree, sometimes life teaches us that we will not always bloom, and a tree does not bear all its fruit in one season.”
Recounting her personal journey, Gabor revealed how early academic setbacks and moments of rejection later gave way to growth and achievement. From earning an ‘F’ in elective mathematics at senior high school to excelling with a ‘B+’ at university, she highlighted the importance of perseverance through adversity.
She also reflected on how her career began with disappointment after being denied admission to study journalism, only to later return to the same institution for her master’s degree—today gracing its campus billboard as one of its success stories.
With disarming candour, Gabor recalled being teased as a child for her ears, only for them to unexpectedly open the door to her first opportunity in broadcasting. “In one season, I was teased a lot for having big ears; in the next season, the same ears…attracted the then news editor to call me first for an informal interview.”
Her message carried a universal reminder: rejection and acceptance, winning and losing, are all part of life’s rhythm.
Encouraging her audience, she concluded: “The dry season is not the end. You will bloom again. Look up; rain is coming. You may be in your dry season right now, but the rainy season is coming.”
Her post has since drawn admiration online for its authenticity and uplifting message, resonating deeply with many navigating their own seasons of challenge.
