Ghana Police Service Welcomes 545 New Recruits, Readying Force for 24-Hour Economy Security
New recruits, including 298 females and 247 males, pass out at Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi.

The Ghana Police Service has officially inducted 545 new recruits into its ranks, including 298 females and 247 males, at a ceremony held at the Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi. The recruits have completed their rigorous training and are now ready to contribute to enhancing security across the country.
In a speech delivered at the passing-out ceremony, the Director-General of Services for the Ghana Police Service, COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, underscored the vital role the newly trained officers will play in supporting the government's ambitious 24-hour economy initiative.
"As Ghana moves towards an economy that operates round the clock, the Ghana Police Service has a cardinal role to play in providing the necessary security to ensure public safety and maintain order," Dr. Owusu said. "To help achieve this, the Police Administration has created a special security unit—the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat—at the Police Headquarters."
The newly established unit will work closely with other law enforcement agencies to provide continuous security, particularly in areas with high economic activity during non-traditional hours. This move is part of the government's broader efforts to ensure that businesses, workers, and citizens are all able to function securely around the clock.
COP Dr. Owusu also urged the recruits to serve with humility, integrity, and diligence, emphasizing that their actions should always reflect the values of the Ghana Police Service. He stressed the importance of building public trust and warned against behaviours that could intimidate citizens.
"Remember, you are not here to intimidate the public but to ensure peace and security for all," Dr. Owusu reminded the new officers. "Your success will depend not only on your training but on your ability to engage with the community in a professional and respectful manner."
As the country continues to grow and modernize, the introduction of the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat marks a significant step in the Ghana Police Service's proactive approach to addressing the changing demands of national security.
The passing-out ceremony was attended by top brass from the Ghana Police Service, local officials, and family members of the recruits, all celebrating this new chapter in the service's commitment to a safer Ghana.
