Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Woman Over Marriage Dispute in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested one Yayu Musa for allegedly killing a 50-year-old woman, Atayi Abdul, in Olla Community, Omala Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025. According to reports, the suspect lured the victim to her farm under the guise that thieves were stealing palm fruits. Upon arrival, Musa allegedly attacked and fatally stabbed her with a knife.

Police detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene, where photographs were taken and evidence gathered. The suspect was later apprehended and remains in police custody.

Sources within the command revealed that the family of the deceased declined an autopsy, opting instead for immediate burial in line with religious and cultural customs.

Due to heightened tensions in the area, the police have deployed joint security patrols to maintain peace and prevent possible unrest.

While investigations into the motive are still ongoing, a family source, Lawal Abdulazeez Muhammed, alleged that the attack stemmed from the woman’s refusal to allow the suspect marry her daughter.
