Sixteen members of the Saviour Church of Ghana who perished in a tragic road crash on the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi–Accra highway have been laid to rest in a mass burial in Obogu, Asante Akyem North Municipality.

The devastating accident occurred on Monday, 28 July, at around 2:30 p.m. The victims were returning from the Church’s annual programme in the Eastern Region when their vehicle collided head-on with a fuel tanker travelling in the opposite direction. Eyewitness accounts described a harrowing scene of destruction and panic.

In a heart-wrenching ceremony filled with sorrow and silence, the Obogu community came together with Saviour Church members to honour the lives lost. A single large grave was dug to lay all 16 victims to rest side by side — a symbolic act of unity and shared faith even in death.

Families, friends, and fellow congregants were visibly shaken as they mourned the sudden and collective loss of their loved ones. Many struggled to contain their emotions as the coffins were lowered into the grave, prayers were offered, and hymns were sung in remembrance of the departed.

“This is a pain too deep for words,” one grieving relative said. “We came together in faith, and now we part in tears.”

Local leaders and church elders called for urgent improvements in road safety measures, lamenting the frequency of fatal crashes along the Kumasi–Accra highway. The community has been plunged into mourning, with calls for national attention to prevent future tragedies of this magnitude.

As the final prayers echoed through Obogu, the air was thick with grief, but also with solidarity — a community bound by faith, loss, and the strength to mourn together.
