President Tinubu Approves Full Payment of Allowances and Bonuses for Super Falcons and D’Tigress

In a significant move to bolster support for Nigerian athletes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate and full payment of all outstanding allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, ahead of their crucial final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. Dikko confirmed that all entitlements, including those for the final scheduled for July 26, 2025, have been promptly disbursed to ensure seamless payment to players, coaches, and team officials.
Describing the initiative as a “policy in motion,” Dikko emphasized that this action underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to elevating the welfare of Nigerian athletes. He affirmed that timely and drama-free payments would now be the standard practice for all national teams under the current administration.
The gesture extends beyond football to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are preparing for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire. Dikko revealed that the team would also benefit from enhanced allowances and bonuses, signaling a broader commitment to supporting athletes across various sports.
“This is the foundation of a new era in sports administration—one built on dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko stated. “President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector will be remembered as a transformative legacy for future generations of Nigerian athletes.”
This development reflects a deliberate effort to foster a supportive and professional environment for Nigeria’s sports teams, ensuring they are well-equipped to compete on the continental stage.
