President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri, in tribute to the late former president.
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 17, during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened to honour Buhari’s memory and service to the nation.
Presiding over the session, President Tinubu delivered a solemn and respectful tribute, describing Buhari as a statesman whose life was defined by discipline, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the country.
“In honour of his legacy, and as part of this special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council, I propose that the University of Maiduguri be renamed Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri,” President Tinubu stated, drawing a round of applause from council members.
The decision underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of Buhari’s enduring impact on Nigeria’s political and national development.
