The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that four local government areas in Borno State — Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte will not host the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at their local headquarters due to persistent security challenges.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Borno State, Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji, disclosed this at a press conference in Maiduguri on Friday, August 15.

“For security and safety reasons, four INEC LGA offices will conduct physical voter registration at designated locations within the Maiduguri metropolis,” Ma’aji stated.

Alternative Registration Centers for Affected LGAs

Abadam residents → Yerwa Peace, Baga Road, Maiduguri

Guzamala residents → Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate, Maiduguri

Kala-Balge residents → Goni Kachallari Primary School, Mafa Road, Maiduguri

Marte residents → Kachamari, opposite Shettiram Filling Station, Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri.

Phased CVR Schedule

According to INEC, the CVR exercise will be conducted in three phases:

Phase 1: August 28 – December 10, 2025 → Register display: December 15 – 21, 2025

Phase 2: January 5 – April 17, 2026 → Register display: April 20 – 26, 2026

Phase 3: May 4 – August 17, 2026 → Register display: August 24 – 30, 2026

Call to Civic Responsibility

Ma’aji described the registration as a national call to civic duty, urging eligible citizens to take part.

“This exercise is a national call to civic duty, and we are committed to ensuring every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate,” he said.

He also appealed for media support and public cooperation, assuring that INEC would provide regular updates throughout the process.
