UHAS Renamed John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences
The University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho has been renamed in honour of the late President John Evans Atta Mills for his role in founding the institution.

The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), located in Ho, has been officially renamed the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences (JEA Mills UHAS).
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the university’s newly constituted Governing Council held at the Ministry of Education.
According to the Minister, the renaming is a tribute to the legacy of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, whose vision and instrumental role were critical to the establishment of the university. President Mills, known for his dedication to education and healthcare, laid the groundwork for UHAS as part of his broader commitment to national development.
“This is not just a name change. It is a reaffirmation of our national values — honouring our heroes, preserving legacy, and inspiring future generations,” the Minister stated.
Prof. Kodzo Gavua, Chairperson of the newly inaugurated Governing Council, welcomed the renaming and pledged that the university would continue to uphold its mission of producing highly skilled health professionals to serve Ghana and the global community.
“We embrace this name with pride and responsibility. The university will remain at the forefront of academic excellence, research, and service to the nation,” Prof. Gavua noted.
John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences continues to be a vital institution in Ghana’s higher education landscape, known for its commitment to training healthcare professionals and advancing public health.
