Despite his humble beginnings, his entrepreneurial journey began in Dunkwa-On-Offin, where he sold music cassettes, feeding bottles, and padlocks. Seeking better opportunities, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria, but political unrest in 1983 forced him to return to Ghana with only a chainsaw and a cassette player. His first attempt at timber contracting failed when a falling tree destroyed his chainsaw. Undeterred, he resumed selling cassette tapes, laying the foundation for his future ventures.

In 1999, Despite revolutionized Ghana's media landscape by founding Peace FM in Accra, a radio station broadcasting primarily in the Akan language. This culturally resonant approach quickly garnered a massive audience, leading to the establishment of additional stations: Okay FM, Neat FM, Hello FM, and Peacefmonline.com. These entities were consolidated under the Despite Group of Companies, solidifying his status as a media mogul. 

Diversification into Finance and Food 

Expanding beyond media, Despite ventured into food processing with Neat Foods Ltd., producing traditional Ghanaian staples like Neat Fufu and Neat Banku. He also established Antona Foods Ltd., known for products like This Way chocolate drink and Motherlac cereal.

In collaboration with Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, he co-founded U2 Company Ltd., specializing in iodated salt production, and United Television (UTV), a leading Ghanaian TV station. Their partnership extended to the financial sector with the creation of Best Point Savings and Loans Ltd.
