60-Year-Old Ondo Man Pleads Guilty to Raping Daughter's 12-Year-Old Friend, Awaits Sentencing

Tola Lebi, a 60-year-old man from Ondo, pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl, a friend of his daughter, to avoid a trial. In court, Lebi admitted to assaulting the victim multiple times, claiming he was unsure what compelled him to act.

Lebi was initially charged by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, ‘Amotekun Corps,’ and brought before an Akure Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutor O.F. Akeredolu stated the assaults occurred between July 7 and July 10, 2025, at Lebi’s residence on Ikoya Road, Holy Trinity Street, Okitipupa, Ondo State, without the victim’s consent.

The offense violates Section 6 and is punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. Without legal representation, Lebi pleaded guilty, and Akeredolu urged the court to convict him.

Seeking leniency, Lebi cited the loss of his wife in 2016, his unmarried status since, and claimed the victim was under a “spell,” expressing remorse and attributing his actions to “the devil’s handiwork.”

Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni adjourned sentencing to August 1, 2025, and ordered Lebi remanded in Amotekun custody.
