The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, presented posthumous ranks and insignia to the bereaved families of the military personnel who lost their lives in the tragic Adansi helicopter crash.

The solemn ceremony, held at the Air Force Headquarters in Accra, brought together senior military officers, relatives of the deceased, and colleagues of the fallen airmen.

Lt. Gen. Agyapong said the gesture was both a symbol of recognition and a mark of honour for the sacrifice made by the soldiers in service to the nation. “Today we not only mourn but also celebrate their dedication, professionalism, and courage. The conferment of these posthumous ranks is a way of immortalising their contributions and ensuring their legacies live on,” he stated.

The insignia and ranks were formally handed over to the families in an emotional moment that underscored the deep personal loss behind the national tragedy. Relatives expressed gratitude for the recognition, while military leadership pledged continued support for the families of the deceased.

The Adansi helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight personnel earlier this month, has left the Ghana Armed Forces and the country in mourning. Government and military authorities have since held a series of ceremonies to honour the victims, including a state-assisted funeral at Independence Square.

Tuesday’s presentation adds to ongoing efforts to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice of the fallen soldiers while reinforcing the bond between the military and the families left behind.
