Chairman Wontumi Hospitalized During EOCO Interrogation – Lawyer Confirms
Chairman Wontumi was rushed to the hospital after feeling unwell during interrogation at EOCO. His lawyer confirms he may return tomorrow if health improves.

The legal counsel for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has confirmed that his client was rushed to the hospital after feeling unwell during an intense interrogation session at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, the NPP stalwart, whose real name is Bernard Antwi Boasiako, was taken ill after enduring long hours of questioning following his earlier appearance at the CID headquarters.
Wontumi was picked up by EOCO officials shortly after completing his session with the Criminal Investigations Department and transferred to EOCO's offices for further interrogation related to allegations of illegal mining and irregular financial payments.
Interrogation Cut Short Due to Health Concerns
“He began feeling unwell midway through the EOCO interrogation,” Mr. Appiah Kubi told reporters. “He has since been taken to the hospital and is currently receiving medical attention. If he recovers well, he will likely return tomorrow to complete the process.”
Supporters Storm EOCO Premises
News of his arrest and subsequent hospitalization triggered a massive turnout of NPP supporters at the EOCO premises. The supporters chanted slogans and demanded the release of their party chairman, describing the arrest and investigation as a politically motivated witch-hunt.
As of now, EOCO and the Ghana Police Service are yet to issue an official statement regarding the case or his medical condition.
The matter continues to stir political tensions, especially in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold for the opposition New Patriotic Party.
