Diogo Jota's Wife to Inherit £35M Estate After Tragic Death

Portuguese football star Diogo Jota’s wife could inherit up to £35 million from his estate, giving her and their three children financial support.

Jota, 28, died last week in Spain along with his brother Andre, who was 25. His successful career in the Premier League helped him amass a sizable fortune.

He initially signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, earning £38,000 a week. In just two years, that added up to nearly £4 million.

When he moved to Liverpool, everything changed. During his first two years at Anfield, earning £83,000 weekly, he made over £8.6 million.

His talent earned him a five-year contract extension in 2022. His wages rose to £140,000 a week. Before his death, he had made almost £22 million from that deal alone.

His contract contained performance bonuses. Over his time at Liverpool, he scored 65 goals in 182 matches, adding to his wealth. Besides football, Jota ran an Esports business and was a brand ambassador.

He was also set to earn around £14.5 million more in the final two years of his contract. Reports say Liverpool plans to honor his contract by paying his wife.

Overall, Jota’s earnings in the Premier League could reach about £34.4 million. His wife, Rute, along with their children Dinis, four, Duarte, two, and Mafalda, eight months old, are expected to inherit this wealth.

Jota bought a luxury home in the upscale suburb of Blundellsands, north Liverpool. Public records show he purchased it in May 2022 for £2,125,000. The house was listed for three years before being sold. It was previously rented out.

In February 2023, Jota created an image rights company named Minute J Ltd. His father Joaquim was linked to the business. The first accounts, filed at the end of 2024, show the company earned £186,754 but owed nearly £50,000 to creditors. Most of the money went to HMRC for taxes.

Many footballers set up these companies to manage income from sponsorships, endorsements, and their team uniform rights.

Jota had lucrative deals with Nike and EA Sports, earning about £3.3 million a year. He also launched his own Esports team called Luna Galaxy.

He owned multiple high-end cars worth over a million pounds, including a Range Rover Sport, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari 488, Audi Q7, and Mercedes-Benz G63AMG.

The website The Richest says Jota left behind a rare financial legacy. His business skills matched his talent on the field. He showed how athletes can build wealth beyond football.

His tragic death came just 13 days after he married Rute, his longtime girlfriend.
