Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has articulated profound sorrow over the sudden demise of lawmaker for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, describing him as a loyal comrade and personal pal.

Dr. Bawumia uttered these words during a visit to the family residence of the late lawmaker on Tuesday, July 8, following Kumi’s untimely demise on Monday, July 7, 2025.

“We got the news while we were at the NEC meeting yesterday. Since then, we have not all been able to recover from the shock,” Dr. Bawumia mentioned.

“Ernest was my friend, and I have always supported him—even during his election as MP for Akwatia. Nobody in parliament supports me more than Ernest; he has always supported me.”

Reminiscing his last moments with the deceased legislator, Bawumia stressed that they spent time together just days before his passing.

“Just this past Friday, I was with him at my house, and we had a good chat. Hearing this beats my mind because on that day, nothing about him showed that he was ill or sick. I am still struggling to wrap my head around the fact that he has passed.”

The immediate past vice president, ostensibly astonished, offered his condolences to the bereaved family and guaranteed his full support during their time of grief.

“We have come home to commiserate with you as families. This hard time is not just for you alone as a family, but we all are included,” he said, adding, “Whatever decision you will take as a family regarding the burial, do not take me out.”
