From Cinema Hits to Assembly Victory
From a celebrated film icon to a rising political figure, Vijay Thalapathy has been a major force in Tamil cinema for over three decades. His journey from superstardom to politics has now become a topic of national attention.
Vijay Thalapaty, superstar of the Tamil film industry. Vijay has a career spanning more than 3 decades, rising from a modest childhood artist to one of the biggest superstar of south Indian cinema. In his early days, people criticized his acting style, although some appreciated his work and predicted that he would be a superstar one day.

Vijay's film career is undoubtedly long and successful. He gave South Indian cinema big hits like Leo, Master, Varisu, Beast etc. Throughout his career he has received immense love from his fans.
Vijay has remained actively involved in social work alongside his films, which has further increased his popularity among the masses.in 2009, vijay started his own fan club with the name Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, who openly supported the AIADMK-id alliance in the election of 2011. In the 2019 citizen amendment by the central government was passed but vijay openly criticized that amendment because he believed this amendment would disrupt the religious harmony of the nation.

On 2 February 2024, Vijay announced his new political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, marking his transition from a film superstar to a political figure. Over the last three decades, while Vijay was focused on his film career, politics in Tamil Nadu was mainly dominated by two parties: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. These two parties largely shaped the political structure of the state. In Tamil Nadu, it is common for actors to become politicians. Many artists enter politics alongside their film careers because it also helps them gain numerous voters due to their strong fan following. As Vijay has also been involved in social work, it has helped him build a positive public image that can support his political career.

According to the law, there are total of 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly, and it is mandatory to win 118 seats to form a government. Vijay thalapaty won 108 seata in Tamil Nadu Assembly. A party that was launched in 2024 and won numerous seats achieved an unexpected victory. Vijay’s party needs only 10 more seats to form a government.
The Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) and congratulated Vijay’s party on its massive victory.
Vijay responded by thanking him in a tweet.
"Thank you, Hon'ble @PMOIndia, for your greetings. The well-being of our people remains our only goal. Transcending politics, we shall focus on the state's progress and the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. We look forward to the Union Government’s support in this endeavor."

Even a leader like Vijay wins the election with a majority of seats in the Assembly, and they are near to forming their own government, but running one of the most important state in terms of strategic, economic, politics and culture is far more complex than films. Elections decide power, but effective governance depends on sustained coordination and real world decision-making under pressure. Now it's time for Vijay to prove that he is the real Thalapaty (Leader of troops).
