It's unfair refusing to reduce prices of spare parts -- GNAG to Abosey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association.
The Ghana National Association Garages has in a press release shown a displeasure to the Abosey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association for refusing to reduce prices of spare parts even though the exchange rate is low.
The release sighted by www.thehubweb.com was signed by Mr Francis Nomo Tetteh, the Director of Communications for the Association.
Release is as follows...
The Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) wishes to address the recent allegations made by the Chairman of the Abosey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association regarding the prices of spare parts.
*GNAG's Position*
We categorically refute the claims that mechanics are inflating prices for customers. The truth is, prices of spare parts remain unchanged despite the reduction in the exchange rate, which is often used to justify price hikes.
*Facts*
- A gallon of synthetic oil still sells between GH¢650-700.00, unchanged.
- Piston rings for Toyota Vitz remain between GH¢400-500, unchanged.
- Toyota Vitz engine between GH12,000.00-18,000.00
- Hyundai H100 engine from GH28,000.00-32,000.00
The spare parts dealers have no justification for maintaining high prices and are shifting the blame to mechanics. This is unacceptable.
*Challenge to Verify*
We challenge anyone doubting our claims to visit Abosey Okai themselves to verify prices. We also call on the media to conduct an independent survey or investigation to ascertain the truth about price reductions.
*Addressing Real Issues*
Rather than making false accusations, we urge the leadership of Abosey Okai to tackle pressing issues like:
- Sale of imitation parts
- Repair and sale of used parts
- Activities of "goro boys" disrupting the market
Signed,
Francis Nomo Tetteh
