Kano Sharia Court Sentences Man to 50 Strokes for Stealing Roofing Sheets
A Sharia Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, to 50 strokes of the cane for stealing five pieces of roofing sheets.
The ruling was delivered on Friday, August 1, 2025, following Abdullahi’s guilty plea to charges of trespass and theft, offences which contravene Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.
According to the Prosecution Counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, the case was reported by one Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters, who alleged that the defendant unlawfully entered his residence in his absence and stole the roofing materials. The incident was reported at the Mariri Police Station on July 21.
Presiding over the case, Judge Malam Umar Lawal handed down the corporal punishment after considering the defendant’s admission of guilt.
