A single glittery sock once worn by Michael Jackson during his 1997 HIStory World Tour performance in Nîmes, France, has just sold for $8,822 at a French auction more than double its estimated value.

The rhinestone-studded sock, reportedly found discarded near Jackson’s dressing room after the show, was initially expected to fetch $3,400 to $4,500. But fervent fan interest and the King of Pop’s enduring legacy drove up the final price.

The sock shows visible stage wear, including stains, and is believed to have been worn during a high-energy performance of hits like Billie Jean and They Don’t Care About Us.

Despite years of controversy surrounding Jackson’s personal life, demand for his memorabilia remains sky-high. Other standout auction sales include his iconic crystal glove which once fetched $350,000 and the fedora hat he tossed during a TV performance, which sold for $80,000.

Jackson’s collectibles continue to attract global attention, proving that decades after his peak, his influence and mystique are still very much alive.
