NUTOG ESTABLISHES REGIONAL TASK FORCE TO TACKLE INDISCIPLINE, PLEADS FOR SWIFT LEGALISATION
The National Union of Tricycle Operators Ghana (NUTOG) has taken a decisive step to restore order and discipline among its members across the country by establishing Regional Task Forces to clamp down on recalcitrant operators.
According to the National Chairman, Mr. Hamza Hafiz, the move forms part of the union’s broader efforts to sanitise the tricycle transport industry and uphold standards of professionalism. He explained that the newly formed task forces would monitor operations in the various regions, enforce compliance with union regulations, and take swift action against any member whose conduct undermines the image of the association.
Mr. Hafiz noted that acts of indiscipline, disregard for traffic laws, and misconduct by a few operators have, over the years, created negative public perceptions about the sector. He stressed that NUTOG is determined to change that narrative through effective supervision, regular training, and the strict enforcement of ethical conduct among its members.
He stated that as part of measures to ensure the swift legalisation of the tricycle business, the task forces will play a crucial role in promoting discipline, ensuring compliance, and aligning members’ operations with national transport standards. This, he said, will demonstrate the union’s readiness for formal recognition and legal backing.
In an interview with the press, Mr. Hafiz urged all tricycle operators to register with NUTOG to gain full access to union benefits, including upcoming insurance packages and other welfare initiatives. He explained that registration will enable the leadership to properly account for members, extend opportunities equitably, and strengthen the union’s advocacy base.
He reiterated his call for unity, discipline, and decent dressing among members, stressing that responsible behaviour would encourage the government to expedite action on the legalisation process. He added that NUTOG remains committed to partnering key stakeholders, including DVLA, the Ghana Police Service, and E-Moto Ghana Limited, to build a more dignified and professional tricycle transport industry.
The Chairman reaffirmed NUTOG’s determination to maintain high standards within the sector and weed out unregistered and undisciplined operators who flout regulations. He assured the public that the union’s leadership is taking bold, practical steps to reform the industry and position it as a credible contributor to Ghana’s economy.
