PassionAir Blames Mid-Air Turbulence on Weather Changes, Assures Public of Safety Commitment
PassionAir apologizes for turbulence on Flight OP 149 from Kumasi to Accra, citing seasonal weather conditions. The airline assures passengers of ongoing safety measures and weather monitoring.

Ghanaian domestic airline PassionAir has formally apologized to passengers aboard Flight OP 149 following a mid-air turbulence incident on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The flight, which was en route from Kumasi to Accra, experienced moderate turbulence that left some travelers alarmed.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 15, PassionAir expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged the discomfort experienced by those on board.
“We sincerely apologise to all affected passengers for the inconvenience caused,” the airline said.
Turbulence Linked to Rainy Season Conditions
The airline attributed the turbulence to seasonal atmospheric disturbances currently affecting domestic air routes across Ghana. The rainy season, which typically brings increased wind shear, crosswinds, and rapid temperature shifts, has heightened the risk of turbulence—particularly on routes to and from Kumasi, Tamale, Sunyani, Wa, and Takoradi.
“Our routes to and from Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Sunyani, and Wa are more likely to encounter varying levels of turbulence during this period,” PassionAir noted.
Proactive Safety Measures in Place
In response to the incident, PassionAir said it is intensifying its collaboration with meteorological and aviation authorities to better track and respond to weather-related risks.
While acknowledging that occasional turbulence may persist, the airline emphasized its commitment to passenger safety.
Rare instances of severe conditions may occur due to these natural weather changes,” the airline said. “However, our operations remain fully aligned with national and international safety standards.
Reassurance to the Flying Public
PassionAir also extended its gratitude to passengers for their continued trust and understanding during the seasonal transition.
The safety and comfort of our passengers and crew remain our top priority. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure a safe and smooth flying experience amid unpredictable weather challenges.
As rainfall and storm systems become more frequent in the months ahead, travelers are being advised to prepare for occasional minor disruptions on domestic flights across Ghana.
