Sack Tanko Rashid Computer - Samson Tells President Mahama
JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Anyenini urges President Akufo-Addo to sack GIFEC acting CEO Tanko Rashid Computer over fake PhD claims, citing integrity in public office.

Prominent media personality and legal practitioner Samson Lardy Anyenini, host of JoyNews' “Newsfile” and the weekend editorial segment “Samson’s Take,” has added his voice to growing public calls for the dismissal of Tanko Rashid Computer, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
In his latest editorial, Samson cited the need for consistent ethical standards in public appointments, referencing the swift action taken by President Akufo-Addo in revoking the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly to the board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) under similar integrity concerns. He argued that the same principle of leadership and accountability must now apply in the case of Mr. Tanko Rashid Computer.
Call for Transparency and Accountability
The respected lawyer and broadcaster questioned why Mr. Tanko Rashid Computer has not been able to publicly present his thesis topic or graduation certificates to validate his academic claims.
“Why can’t he just show us the evidence?” Samson asked. “If the credentials are genuine, there should be no difficulty producing them.”
He emphasized that the burden of proof lies with the appointee, particularly one holding public office and using the title of ‘Doctor’, which is now being contested.
GTEC Directive and Media Responsibility
Earlier this week, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) issued a formal directive to Mr. Rashid Computer, instructing him to cease using the title of Doctor, as his academic credentials were found to be unearned and unrecognized by approved Ghanaian standards.
Samson also took a moment to caution his fellow journalists, urging them not to refer to Mr. Tanko Rashid as “Doctor” until he can provide credible proof of his academic qualifications.
“It is unacceptable for someone in public office to hurl insults at critics rather than offer evidence,” he said, referring to reports of Mr. Tanko Rashid Computer attacking media critics of his credentials.
A Broader Concern for Public Service Integrity
Samson further recommended that the President consider a broader review of academic qualifications among appointees to prevent further embarrassment to public institutions.
“Integrity in public service must be non-negotiable,” he concluded.
The controversy has reignited national discussions about fake academic credentials, the credibility of public figures, and the role of regulatory institutions like GTEC in safeguarding Ghana’s educational and governance standards.
