Suspected Armed Herdsmen Kill Two Teenage Girls in Kogi Ambush

Two teenage girls, identified as 17-year-old Ajuma Simon and 18-year-old Omojo Shuaibu, were brutally killed in an ambush by suspected armed herdsmen in Kogi State.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Okekwu village, near Ogbogbo, within the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area. The victims were returning home from the Ega market around 7 p.m. when they were attacked along a secluded bush path.
According to an eyewitness, Yahaya Edibo, the ambush took place roughly two kilometers from Okekwu village. “We heard their cries for help, but by the time we reached the scene, it was too late. One of the girls was still barely alive and managed to say the attackers had tried to rᴀpe them. When they resisted and attempted to flee, the men chased them with machetes and butchered them mercilessly,” he recounted.
Local sources said that community youths and security operatives mobilized to the area and recovered the victims’ bodies the following morning. Their remains have been deposited at a morgue in Idah, Idah Local Government Area.
