Tammy Baldwin Named on Suspect’s Hit List in Minnesota Lawmaker Shooting Spree
Senator Tammy Baldwin was reportedly on a hit list linked to a Minnesota shooter who targeted Democratic lawmakers, killing Rep. Melissa Hortman. Authorities continue to investigate the politically motivated attack.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) was among several public figures named on a hit list tied to the suspect responsible for a deadly weekend shooting in Minnesota that left one state lawmaker dead and others wounded, according to a spokesperson who spoke to CNN.
“Law enforcement informed Senator Baldwin that she was on the suspect’s list of names,” the spokesperson confirmed.
“She appreciates how quickly officers acted to keep everyone safe. Her focus now is on what matters most: honoring Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, praying for the others fighting for their lives, and condemning this horrific act of political violence.”
Violent Attack Targeted Elected Officials
The violence unfolded Saturday when state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot at their home. Hortman died from her injuries. In a related attack, state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were also shot and remain hospitalized.
Law enforcement believes the attacks were part of a broader plan orchestrated by Vance Boelter, 57, who maintained a hit list containing the names of prominent Democrats and abortion rights advocates, including individuals affiliated with Planned Parenthood.
Boelter’s Arrest Ends Largest Manhunt in State History
Boelter was apprehended Sunday after a massive manhunt—the largest in Minnesota’s history. Authorities say he surrendered peacefully, crawling toward SWAT officers before being taken into custody without resistance.
He is expected to face first-degree murder charges in Hennepin County, which does not permit the death penalty. If convicted, Boelter faces life in prison without parole.
Political Motivation Under Investigation
Although a clear motive has not been publicly confirmed, authorities say the suspect had deliberately visited multiple lawmakers’ residences with the intent to kill. After fatally shooting Hortman, police intercepted Boelter at the scene, where he reportedly posed as a law enforcement officer before fleeing.
Investigators confirmed that the suspect had visited at least two additional homes of public officials. A senior officer remarked, “If our response had been delayed by even minutes, the carnage could have continued for hours.”
Growing Concerns Over Political Violence
The shocking nature of the attack has intensified fears surrounding political violence in the U.S., particularly against those advocating for reproductive rights and social justice. Senator Baldwin’s inclusion on the suspect’s list underscores the broader threats facing public servants.
Fellow lawmakers and public figures are now renewing calls for enhanced security and broader action against domestic political extremism.
