The President Ghana Never Got: Manasseh Azure Issues Retraction and Apology to Ibrahim Mahama

Investigative journalist and author, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has issued a formal retraction and apology concerning a factual error in his recent book, The President Ghana Never Got.

The book, which explores the banking crisis under the Akufo-Addo administration, included an inaccurate claim about businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.

In the book, Manasseh mentioned that Mr. Mahama was personally responsible for a $28 million debt owed to the now-defunct Merchant Bank. However, in a statement released on August 26, 2024, Manasseh clarified that the debt was actually owed by Mr. Mahama’s company, Engineers and Planners Company Limited, and not by Mr. Mahama himself.

The error, according to Manasseh, was a “genuine oversight,” and he has committed to correcting the mistake in the online version of the book and in future reprints. He also offered an unreserved apology to Mr. Mahama for any harm caused by the publication.

This development comes after Mr. Mahama’s legal team brought the error to Manasseh’s attention, prompting a swift retraction and apology from the journalist. The situation underscores the importance of accuracy in reporting and the consequences of misrepresentation in public discourse.
