Tragedy in Maharashtra: Iron Bridge Collapse Claims Two Lives, Triggers Major Rescue
Two people died and six were seriously injured after an iron bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River in Pune district, Maharashtra. Rescue efforts are ongoing with the NDRF on-site.

PUNE, INDIA – Tragedy struck in western India on Sunday afternoon when an iron bridge spanning the Indrayani River in Pune district, Maharashtra, collapsed, claiming the lives of two people and leaving six others seriously injured.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. local time near the town of Talegaon. Witnesses say a large crowd was on the bridge when it suddenly gave way, plunging at least 20 to 25 people into the river below.
India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was quickly deployed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that rescue operations were being prioritized and expressed his condolences to the victims’ families via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Eyewitness Raghuveer Shelar recounted the harrowing moment the bridge collapsed. “It happened in seconds. Some people were saved, but many were pulled down with the debris,” he told Reuters.
Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party also shared concerns that several victims may still be unaccounted for and potentially swept away by the river's current.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as emergency crews continue to search the wreckage for survivors. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
