Tyrese Gibson’s Ex-Wife Seeks Jail Time Over Unpaid $492K Legal Fees

Samantha Gibson, ex-wife of singer and actor Tyrese Gibson, is urging the court to jail the Fast & Furious star over his alleged refusal to pay nearly half a million dollars in attorney fees related to their divorce.

In court documents filed on Friday, July 25, Samantha accused Tyrese of willfully defying a court order that mandated him to pay $399,512 in legal fees. Due to accumulating interest, the outstanding amount has now ballooned to $492,651.

“Mr. Gibson has the ability to pay the court-ordered attorney’s fees and accrued interest and chooses to ignore the court’s order,” Samantha wrote, describing his conduct as a “blatant disregard” for the court’s authority.

According to Billboard, she is now requesting that the court hold Tyrese in criminal contempt and sentence him to 20 days in jail for failing to comply with the payment order.

The former couple, who separated in 2020, finalized their divorce in 2023. As part of the settlement, the judge ordered Tyrese to pay $399,152 in legal expenses comprising $217,731 owed to The Gleklen Law Firm and $181,421 to Bloom Lines Alexander.

Their post-divorce legal battles have been far from over. Last year, Tyrese was briefly detained for failing to meet his child support obligations. One of the law firms also filed a lien against his Atlanta home in an attempt to recover the unpaid fees.

Samantha’s legal team says this latest motion is intended to compel Tyrese to fulfill his long standing financial obligations.
