Security operatives have launched a major crackdown on notorious drug dens and brothels in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, and surrounding areas.

The operation, led by the Executive Chairman of Damaturu Local Government, Alhaji Bukar Adamu, resulted in the arrest of several suspects found in possession of suspected illicit drugs and controlled substances.

Yusuf Ali, the Focal Person for Digital and Strategic Communications to the Yobe State Government, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 10, 2025. He emphasized that the move aligns with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s directive to stamp out drug abuse and related social vices across the state.

“Acting on credible intelligence and in close coordination with security agencies, the enforcement team—including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)—raided multiple high-risk areas, including Zango, YBC, Bakin Kasuwa, Maduri, and Daki Goma,” the statement read.

According to Alhaji Bukar Adamu, the operation is part of a larger strategy to dismantle criminal enclaves known for the sale and open use of illegal drugs.

“This effort strictly follows the mandate of Governor Buni, who has declared zero tolerance for drug abuse.
