NPP Activist Alfred Ababio 'Adenta Kumi' Released by National Investigations Bureau
NPP activist Alfred Ababio, also known as Adenta Kumi, has been released unconditionally by the National Investigations Bureau after his arrest over a viral video involving Supreme Court justices and lawyer Thaddeus Sory.
The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has released Alfred Ababio, a well-known New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist popularly known as Adenta Kumi, after he was arrested at his residence in the early hours of Friday.
The arrest followed a petition filed by Adenta Kumi involving serious allegations against two sitting Supreme Court Justices and private legal practitioner Thaddeus Sory. According to the activist, the three were captured in a viral video purportedly meeting at a restaurant under circumstances that raised concerns of impropriety.
His arrest occurred less than 24 hours after the said video surfaced online, gaining widespread attention and stirring public debate. The footage is said to depict lawyer Thaddeus Sory in the company of Justice Kulendi and Justice Asiedu, prompting Kumi to file a formal complaint seeking further investigation.
Following intense public interest and political reactions, Alfred Ababio has now been released from custody. He was spotted this evening in the company of Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who confirmed that the release was made unconditionally.
"The NPP activist was released without any conditions. Justice must always be accompanied by fairness and due process,” said Afenyo-Markin in a brief statement.
Footage and photos from the NPP headquarters showed Adenta Kumi being welcomed by high-ranking party officials and supporters, many of whom hailed his release as a vindication of free expression and due process.
While the NIB has not released an official statement regarding the specifics of the arrest or the release, the development is expected to continue generating public interest, especially given the judicial implications and political sensitivities surrounding the case.
Observers are now awaiting any official responses from the Judicial Service, Thaddeus Sory, or the Supreme Court justices allegedly involved in the matter.
