2025 SHS Placements Start September 17: What Parents and Students Must Know

The Ghana Education Service has scheduled the 2025 school placement exercise to begin on September 17, 2025. Ahead of this, a pre-placement verification period (September 1–8) will allow students and parents to confirm their details on the official CSSPS portal, www.cssps.gov.gh. Placements are strictly merit-based, and students are expected to report to their assigned schools from October 18–20, 2025. GES has warned against fraudsters posing as intermediaries, assuring the public that the process is free, transparent, and fully automated.

GES Sets September 17 as Start Date for 2025 School Placement Exercise

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that this year’s nationwide school placement exercise will officially begin on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, allowing thousands of students who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to know which second-cycle schools they have been placed in.  The announcement was made by GES Director-General, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Pre-Placement Verification

Ahead of the exercise, GES has opened a pre-placement verification window from September 1 to September 8, 2025. During this period, candidates and their guardians must log onto the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal via www.cssps.gov.gh to confirm and verify details such as:

  • Candidate’s name and gender

  • Selected schools and programmes

  • School codes

GES has provided an explanatory video on the portal to guide students and parents through the process. Any errors detected during this window can be corrected before the final placement begins.

Placement and Reporting Dates

Students successfully placed will be expected to report to their new schools between October 18 and October 20, 2025, marking the start of the new academic year.

Transparency and Warnings Against Fraud

GES Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis emphasized that the placement process is merit-based, transparent, and completely free. Parents and candidates are strongly advised to avoid paying money to third parties who promise guaranteed placements, as such acts are fraudulent and punishable by law.

Dedicated help desks and call centers will also be set up nationwide to assist families facing placement-related challenges.

Understanding the CSSPS System

The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) was introduced to ensure a fair and efficient distribution of BECE graduates into Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Technical/Vocational institutions. The system operates on merit, considering each candidate’s performance, programme preferences, and available school slots.

By digitizing the process, the government has eliminated biases that were associated with manual placements, creating a level playing field for all candidates regardless of background.
