WASSCE: GES Warns School Heads Against Registering Form Two Students
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) not to register Form Two students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) not to register Form Two students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to GES, any head of school found registering Form Two students risks severe sanctions. The directive emphasizes that only Form Three students who have completed the required syllabus are eligible to sit for the WASSCE.
Reasons Behind the Directive
Curriculum Completion: Form Two students have not yet covered the full syllabus and registering them undermines the integrity of the examination process.
Examination Standards: The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has strict rules governing candidate eligibility, and GES insists schools must comply.
Accountability: The warning is part of efforts to maintain discipline and fairness in Ghana’s education system.
GES cautioned that heads of schools who flout this directive will face disciplinary action. The Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring that students are adequately prepared before sitting for national examinations.
This warning comes amid reports that some schools have attempted to register Form Two students, possibly to boost their pass rates or gain financial benefits. GES stressed that such practices compromise educational standards and disadvantage students in the long run.
