The Bank of Ghana will mark the 60th anniversary of the Ghanaian Cedi in July 2025 with nationwide events, exhibitions, and public campaigns to celebrate its evolution and impact.

The Bank of Ghana has announced plans to mark the 60th anniversary of the Ghanaian Cedi as the nation’s sole legal tender on 19th July 2025, with a series of events and public engagements under the theme Cedi@60.
The Cedi was first introduced on 19th July 1965 to replace the Ghanaian Pound, and over the past six decades, it has undergone several transformations in form and policy to meet the evolving demands of the Ghanaian economy.
In a public notice signed by Ms. Sandra Thompson, Secretary to the Bank, the central bank acknowledged the Cedi’s role in maintaining Ghana’s economic sovereignty, symbolizing resilience, innovation, and the nation’s aspirations for stability and growth.
