At least five people have been confirmed dead and ten others injured after an explosion rocked Kano State on Saturday, sparking widespread panic among residents.

Explosion Linked to Mortar Vehicle

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, explaining that the explosion originated from a military-grade mortar vehicle. He stated that the detonation appeared to be related to an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operation.

I received a report about what happened. When I arrived, I saw it was likely an EOD detonation on a mortar vehicle,” Ibrahim said.

Victims Rushed to Teaching Hospital

According to the Commissioner, fifteen individuals were affected, and all were immediately transported to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, five victims succumbed to their injuries, while ten others remain hospitalized.

Vehicle Reportedly Came from Yobe

Preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle carrying the explosive originated from Yobe State. It is believed the explosive device was being transported on a trailer, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether military personnel or private contractors were responsible.

The Kano State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident. The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, and bomb experts are examining the scene to determine whether it was an accidental detonation or due to mishandling.

Widespread Panic in the Community
