The final funeral rites of the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, are ongoing, marking the solemn ending of a week-long period of mourning at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The Queen Mother is being interred in a ceremony marinated in tradition, reverence, and solemnity.

A hush has descended over the city ahead of the final burial rites, set for the evening of Thursday, September 18, 2025. The Funeral Committee has instructed the public to remain indoors, a measure enshrined in Ashanti custom to uphold dignity, order, and sobriety during the Queen Mother’s final passage.

Typical densely populated suburbs, including the Prempeh I International Airport Roundabout through Aboabo to Anloga Junction, have been unusually ghost enclaves, while the central business district remains quiet as the city collectively pays its respects.

Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who joined her ancestors on Thursday, August 7, 2025, was laid in state on Monday, September 15, giving the public and dignitaries an opportunity to file past her mortal remains to pay their final respects. The funeral rites, which commenced on Sunday, September 14, have attracted dozens of mourners and sympathisers from across the country, including traditional overlords, past and current government officials, renowned politicians, and ordinary citizens.

Notable Ghanaian leaders, including His Excellency John Dramani Mahama president of Ghana, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, current veep Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and former veep Dr Mahamudu Bawumia joined the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace to pay last respect to the deceased queen mother.

Fondly known for her wits and loyalty to Asanteman, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III is being remembered as a mother figure whose leadership enormously nourished the cultural heritage and traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom.
