From struggle to gratitude: Setor’s farewell to his sponsor
Boy Brings Red Plastic Chair to Honour Late Dr Omane Boamah

A touching moment unfolded at the state funeral for Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah on Friday morning, as a nine-year-old boy whose life the late minister had touched deeply, came to pay his last respects.
The boy, identified as Setor, had been sponsored by Dr Omane Boamah to undergo life-changing surgery. Before the intervention, Setor had to walk to school using a red plastic chair as support due to his condition.
Clutching the same chair that symbolised his struggles, Setor joined mourners at Black Star Square to bid farewell to the man who had transformed his life. Witnesses described the sight as both heartbreaking and inspiring, a reminder of Dr Omane Boamah’s compassion beyond his political duties.
The state funeral, attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, government officials, the military high command, and hundreds of citizens, was held in honour of Dr Omane Boamah and seven others who perished in the August 6 military helicopter crash.
As tributes poured in for the late minister’s service to the nation and his acts of kindness, Setor’s quiet gesture stood out as a deeply personal testament to the human impact of Dr Omane Boamah’s generosity.
Mourners at the ceremony were visibly moved, with many describing Setor’s presence as “the most touching tribute of the day.”
