GJA Membership ID Cards Finally Ready After a Decade-Long Wait – Albert Dwumfour Confirms
Journalists Urged to Submit Passport Photos as Card Issuance Begins with Members in Good Standing

In a major breakthrough for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), its President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has announced that GJA membership ID cards will finally be printed and issued this week—marking the end of more than a decade of delays.
Speaking in a statement released by the GJA Secretariat, Mr. Dwumfour revealed that the long-awaited project will be executed by Margins Group, a leading Ghanaian firm known for its secure identity and card manufacturing solutions. The project is being sponsored by KGL Group, following months of negotiations to resolve technical and financial challenges that had stalled the initiative for over 10 years.
■ Submission Process Begins
To kickstart the process, the GJA is requesting that members send high-quality passport-sized photographs (in JPG format, taken against a white background) to gja.passportphoto@gmail.com. Members must also include their full name, organisation, region, and contact details. Importantly, selfies will not be accepted as valid passport photos.
Printing and distribution of the ID cards will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis, starting with members in good standing, as listed in recent publications in the national dailies.
■ A Promise Fulfilled
GJA President Albert Dwumfour expressed his excitement about the long-overdue development:
“I am very excited to see this day finally come. I believe our members will be equally thrilled, especially considering how long they’ve waited for this. We made a promise, and we are delivering.”
He extended appreciation to Margins Group for their technical expertise and to KGL Group for their financial backing, which made it possible to bring the stalled process back to life.
■ New Era of Professional Identity
For more than a decade, GJA members have operated without official identification—something that affected verification, access to restricted areas during news coverage, and professional recognition.
Now, with this initiative back on track under Dwumfour’s leadership, the association is taking a critical step forward in professionalising the media landscape and reinforcing the legitimacy of its members across the country.
The announcement has already generated excitement among regional chapters, including GJA Volta, Western, Northern, Tema, and among partners such as UNESCO, Ghana News Agency, JoyNews, GBC, Adom FM, and Joy Prime.
■ What's Next?
Once the ID cards are printed, the GJA will communicate collection procedures or delivery timelines to members. The process will be ongoing to ensure all eligible members receive their cards.
