Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has established himself as the clear frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest, according to a new poll by Global Info Analytics.

The survey, released on Thursday, 21 August 2025, shows Dr Bawumia commanding 52% support among NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries. This decisive lead places him well ahead of his closest rival, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, who polled 17%.

Other aspirants made little impact, with Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong securing 3%, while former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum garnered just 1%. Former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, and former MP Addai Nimo each recorded less than 1%.

The poll further revealed that 10% of delegates remain undecided, with an additional 9% declining to disclose their choice, leaving some space for late shifts in support as the primaries draw closer.

Global Info Analytics conducted the survey between 12 and 20 August across 263 constituencies, interviewing 2,656 NPP delegates, of which 2,560 completed all responses. The poll, conducted via computer-assisted telephone interviews, carries a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of ±2.44%.

While the figures confirm Dr Bawumia’s commanding advantage, political analysts caution that the battle is not yet over. Consolidating undecided delegates, they argue, will be critical if he is to seal outright victory in the upcoming contest.

For Kennedy Agyapong and the rest of the field, the challenge now lies in reshaping their campaign strategies to close the wide gap and appeal to those yet to make up their minds.

The NPP presidential primaries, set to determine who leads the party into the 2028 general elections, are already shaping up to be a pivotal moment in Ghana’s political landscape.
