GOVERNMENT CAN WIN GALAMSEY FIGHT WITHIN A WEEK, SAYS POLITICAL ANALYST

A political analyst, Mr. Emmanuel Alex Nti, believes the government can triumph over galamsey (illegal mining) within a week if proper measures are implemented. Speaking on Rejoice FM's Amansa Ntie Morning Show, Mr. Nti emphasized that the key to winning this fight lies in collaboration with traditional leaders.

"The government can stop galamsey in a week, but it's crucial for traditional leaders to work with them," he said. "If chiefs are willing to declare war on galamsey in their territories, it will end quickly."

Mr. Nti made these comments while reacting to the President's recent meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), where he briefed them on the government's progress in the fight against galamsey. According to Mr. Nti, the government has made significant strides, but more needs to be done.

He also highlighted the need to hold accountable landowners who sell their lands to illegal miners, as well as chiefs who collect bribes from these miners. "Some chiefs have taskforces that take money from illegal miners; these taskforces and the chiefs behind them must be arrested," he stressed. Mr. Nti urged the government to enact laws that would allow for the prosecution of chiefs and landowners who facilitate illegal mining activities on their lands.
