Harare Woman Arrested for Kidnapping Ex-Lover, Forcing Him into Ritual-Based Unprotected Sex

A 26-year-old woman from Harare, Amanda Chizanga Chakanyuka, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping her ex-boyfriend and forcing him into unprotected sex under the guise of removing "rituals."
The shocking incident took place on Saturday, July 12, and has left residents of Glen View and Highfield in Zimbabwe in disbelief. According to reports, Amanda, accompanied by five unidentified men, stormed the Glen View 7 residence of her former partner, 38-year-old Linos Gapanga.
“I was shocked when Amanda entered with five men. They accused me of raping and impregnating her,” Gapanga told H-Metro. He said the group forcibly dragged him into a black BMW (registration ACD 9485), while Amanda followed in a Ford Ranger (registration ADG 3211).
He was allegedly taken to Machipisa Pink Lodge in Highfield, where three of the men assaulted him before forcing him into a room where Amanda was waiting.
“They claimed I needed to sleep with her without protection to remove some rituals,” Gapanga said. He also reported that after the encounter, the group left with his wallet containing US$142 and several bank cards.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed Amanda’s arrest. “Police have arrested a woman in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case in Highfield involving former lovers and five unidentified men. The complainant sustained injuries, including a swollen face and rib pain, and was treated at Sally Mugabe Hospital. Investigations are ongoing,” he said.
The five male suspects remain on the run.
Gapanga, who reported the incident shortly after being released, is calling for justice. “I didn’t deserve what happened. I want those people arrested,” he said.
The unusual case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning the assault and the alleged use of ritual cleansing as a pretext for sexual violence.
