Lagos Court Sentences Man to 50 Hours Community Service for Possession of Fraudulent Documents

Justice O.A. Fadipe of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced Abdulrahman Murphy Usifo to 50 hours of community service for being in possession of fraudulent documents.

Usifo was prosecuted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), based in Ikoyi, Lagos. He was arraigned on a one-count charge involving possession of fraudulent documents and cybercrime-related offenses.

The charge stated that on or about May 27, 2025, in Lagos, Usifo was found with a Gmail account titled "Remittance of Funds" and other documents in which he falsely represented himself as one Mr. Attilio Traidi. These materials, discovered on his HP laptop, were intended for online fraudulent activities and violated Section 320 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Usifo pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following the plea, EFCC counsel I.G. Akhanolu presented the facts of the case. He explained that the EFCC had received intelligence regarding Usifo's involvement in cybercrime. After analyzing the report and confirming its credibility, operatives conducted a sting operation in Festac Town, Lagos, on May 27, 2025, which led to Usifo's arrest.

Upon his arrest, an iPhone 15 Pro Max and an HP laptop were recovered from him. He was taken to the EFCC office at Okotie-Eboh Road, Ikoyi, where he voluntarily gave a statement under caution.

Justice Fadipe, after reviewing the evidence and the defendant’s admission, sentenced him to 50 hours of community service.
