Manhyia South MP slams Mahama over ‘rushed’ Chief Justice dismissal
Judicial Independence at Risk? MP Questions Mahama’s Sacking of Chief Justice

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Baffour Awuah, has questioned former President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to dismiss the Chief Justice while an inquiry committee was still handling two pending petitions.
The MP expressed concern over what he described as a “rushed decision”, arguing that due process should have been allowed to run its full course before any final action was taken.
“Why the rush to sack the Chief Justice while the committee still had two more petitions to deal with?” he quizzed, suggesting that the former President’s action may have undermined the credibility of the ongoing proceedings.
The legislator further stressed that the independence of state institutions must be safeguarded, especially when it comes to sensitive matters involving the judiciary. According to him, executive interference in judicial processes risks eroding public trust in governance.
Political watchers say the comments add to the growing debate over the handling of the judiciary under Mahama’s administration, with critics raising questions about transparency and fairness in decision-making.
The issue is expected to fuel partisan discussions in the coming days, as questions linger over whether constitutional and procedural safeguards were fully respected in the dismissal of the Chief Justice.
