Nigerian Army Initiates Investigation into Viral Video Alleging Poor Feeding of Troops

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate and comprehensive investigation into a widely circulated video depicting soldiers expressing dissatisfaction with the quality and quantity of food supplied by operational commanders.
In the video, personnel were seen showcasing food items allegedly provided by higher command, highlighting concerns about inadequate provisions. Addressing the issue, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, issued a statement underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to treating the matter with utmost seriousness. While the authenticity and full context of the video are yet to be verified, the Army assures both its personnel and the public that the issue is being prioritized.
“The Chief of Army Staff has ordered a meticulous investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the statement read. “In keeping with his commitment to transparency and accountability, the findings of this investigation will be made public upon its conclusion.”
Lieutenant General Oluyede reiterated that the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel remains a cornerstone of his Command Philosophy. He emphasized that the well-being and operational effectiveness of troops are central to the Army’s ongoing transformation efforts and mission success.
The statement also called on personnel to channel grievances through established military protocols, noting that the use of unauthorized platforms to voice complaints, particularly on operational matters, undermines military ethics and discipline.
The Nigerian Army leadership reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards of accountability, troop welfare, and institutional integrity in fulfillment of its constitutional responsibilities. The COAS assured all stakeholders that every effort is being made to ensure the continued well-being and effectiveness of Nigerian soldiers.
