NPP expands voter register ahead of 2026 presidential primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the registration of additional delegates for its upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, 31 January 2026. The exercise, which follows transitional provisions adopted at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra on 19 July 2025, will expand the categories of party officials and dignitaries eligible to vote.

In a circular issued on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, the NPP listed the newly recognised groups of delegates, which include all former regional and constituency executives, members of the National Council of Elders, 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, former party card-bearing Members of Parliament, parliamentary candidates, and past national officers.

Other categories are external branch executives, TESCON presidents and coordinators, former ministers, deputy ministers, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs), as well as selected patrons from regional and constituency councils of elders.

The party has directed all officers who fall under the approved categories to register their names with their respective organisational structures, including the national secretariat, regional offices, constituencies, and external branches, with immediate effect. An online registration link will also be made available to facilitate the process, while registration forms can be downloaded from the party’s official website.

The deadline for registration is Friday, 19 September 2025. The Presidential Elections Committee, chaired by William Yamoah, emphasised that the exercise is strictly limited to eligible officers and members.

“The Presidential Elections Committee shall undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the Party’s album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential election,” the statement read.

The move is seen as part of the party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency in the lead-up to the crucial 2026 presidential primaries. With the inclusion of former executives, TESCON leaders, and other party elders, the NPP voter register is set to be significantly expanded, potentially shaping the outcome of the internal contest.
