Ondo Traditional Ruler Arrested for Alleged Rape of 12-Year-Old Girl

The Ondo State Police Command announced on Thursday that they have arrested Chief Adeniyi Ifedayo, a man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Laaagba community, located in Ondo East Local Government Area.
Ifedayo, who served as the traditional ruler of the area, reportedly lured the girl into his home. He kept her there for two weeks and is alleged to have sexually harassed her during that time.
An unnamed source said the girl was brought to the chief’s house by a motorcycle rider whose name has not been disclosed. The source added that the suspect fed her with pap and assaulted her daily while holding her captive.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the state's Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the suspect’s arrest. He said the case has been moved to the police headquarters for further investigation.
He explained, “The case has been transferred, and ongoing investigations are thorough.”
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) also reacted strongly against the incident. In a statement, the group condemned the alleged abuse and called on authorities to take strict action.
Mrs. Tola Gbadamosi and Tosin Ighoteguono, the group’s chairperson and secretary, urged the government and security agencies to ensure justice.
Their statement said, “NAWOJ demands clear results in the investigation and prosecution. We support the victim and her family and encourage their full cooperation. We also ask parents and communities to stay vigilant against child abuse.”
The group stressed the importance of better laws to protect children’s rights. They also urged authorities to act quickly to bring justice.
In closing, NAWOJ called for strong measures to defend children’s dignity and ensure that those responsible face justice without delay.
