During a "patriotic speech" given yesterday at the NPP's Patriotic Institute inauguration, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on party members particularly the youth to focus on internal unity and use party frameworks to address complaints rather than airing them publicly, highlighting the significance of loyalty, sacrifice, and ideological education for the party's future

Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader for the New Patriotic Party delivered a significant "patriotic speech" yesterday, June 25, 2025, at the official launch of the Patriotic Institute at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters in Accra.
The Honourable's speech focused on;
- Upholding Party Discipline and Unity: He strongly urged members of the NPP, particularly the youth, to address their concerns and grievances through internal party structures rather than airing them on social media. He cautioned that public attacks on party leadership and internal wrangling online only serve to weaken the party's cohesion and damage its public image. He stressed, "Don't go out washing our dirty linen in public," and encouraged members to embrace unity and forward-thinking strategies as the party rebuilds after the 2024 electoral setback.
- The Importance of the Patriotic Institute: Hon. Afenyo-Markin described the newly launched Patriotic Institute as "a true call for loyalty" and a "powerful reminder that the NPP is a movement of ideas." He stated that the institute, which is the NPP's official leadership and ideological training centre, is designed to equip members with policy knowledge, a deeper understanding of party tradition, and strategic communication skills. He emphasized that it would help the party sharpen its message and prepare its leaders for Ghana's changing political realities, serving as a "living archive of our party's journey, a centre of ideological formation, policy innovation, and a training ground for the next generation of NPP leaders."
- Loyalty and Sacrifice: He recounted personal experiences of his family facing professional and personal setbacks due to their unwavering allegiance to the NPP tradition. He shared how his mother lost her livelihood, his stepfather was demoted and transferred for their support of the party, and his biological father was forced into exile. He used these examples to underscore the importance of loyalty and sacrifice in political service, and to remind party members of the true cost of upholding the party's values.
In essence, Hon. Afenyo-Markin's speech was a passionate call for internal cohesion, ideological strengthening, and a renewed commitment to the core values and principles of the NPP, particularly in the context of preparing for future political engagements.
