Police Probe Sudden Death of Babcock University Graduate Found Unresponsive in Hostel

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden death of a 20-year-old recent Information Technology graduate from Babcock University, Ilisan Remo.

According to security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the deceased, identified as Akawa Boluwatife Samuel, was brought to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital by his roommates on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

Police detectives who visited the scene reported that one of his roommates, Adili Leonard Chimdindu, revealed that Boluwatife had complained of cold and difficulty breathing on July 27 and was advised to seek medical attention at the University Medical Centre.

Chimdindu explained that they were on campus to finalize their clearance ahead of graduation, and Boluwatife had planned to return home shortly afterward. He added that the deceased had been in good spirits the previous evening, playing games on his laptop until around 11:00 p.m.

However, he was found unresponsive the next morning. Authorities documented the scene, took photographs of the body, and recorded a statement from his elder brother, Akawa Toluwanimi John.

The body has since been deposited at the university morgue for autopsy and preservation, while investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death.
