R. Kelly Hospitalized After Alleged Prison Medication Overdose, Lawyers Claim

R. Kelly’s lawyers recently claimed in court documents that the convicted singer was given an overdose of medication by prison staff.
Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence in North Carolina after being found guilty of multiple crimes, including racketeering and sex trafficking minors.
The defense argued that on June 12, Kelly was in solitary confinement when prison officials instructed him to take a large dose of medication. They say he became “faint” and “dizzy” the next morning.
According to the filings, Kelly tried to get up but fell to the floor. He then crawled to his cell door and lost consciousness. An ambulance took him to Duke University Hospital, where he was treated for two days.
The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on the claims when asked by AFP. They explained they do not talk about the health or conditions of any inmate’s confinement. They also said they avoid commenting on ongoing legal cases.
Kelly’s lawyers previously filed an emergency motion asking for him to be released to home detention. They claimed that prison officials are planning to murder him.
Officials dismissed these claims as “fanciful” and “theatrical.” They also said the motion was filed in the wrong court and should not be taken seriously.
Kelly was convicted in 2021 in New York for running a criminal enterprise that recruited and trafficked teens and women for sex.
He was again convicted a year later in Chicago for producing child porn and enticing a minor. Famous for songs like “I Believe I Can Fly,” Kelly is now serving time in New York and will spend most of his Chicago sentence at the same time.
