Senate Proposes N200m Compensation for Family of 2-Year-Old Killed by NDLEA Stray Bullet in Delta

The Senate has proposed a N200 million compensation for the family of 2-year-old Ivan Onose Omhonrina, who was fatally shot by a stray bullet during an NDLEA raid on a drug joint in Okpanam, Oshimili North, Delta State, on July 13, 2023.

During the operation, NDLEA operatives fired a stray bullet that penetrated the shop of the victims’ mother, killing Ivan in the abdomen and injuring his younger brother, Eronmosele, in the eye. Both children were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre for surgery, but Ivan did not survive.

The issue was raised in plenary through a petition presented by Senator Neda Imaseun, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics. The Senate observed a minute of silence in Ivan’s memory and recommended the compensation for his family.
