Steka Slams NPP Conference as Stage-Managed for Bawumia
The MP for Nhyiraeso denounced organisers of the just held NPP National Delegates Conference

Former Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has raised concerns over the conduct and transparency of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) just-ended National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday, 19 July.
Dr Amoah, a known supporter of Kennedy Agyapong’s flagbearer bid, expressed his misgivings during an appearance on Asempa FM’s political talk show Eko Sii Sen on Monday. He alleged that a significant number of delegates were bussed to the event to boost the public image of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he claimed received preferential treatment.
“A chunk of the delegates were bused just to cheer Dr Bawumia. The impression they are creating is deceptive. They were packed there just to make noise,” he stated.
Dr Amoah, popularly known as Steka, also criticised the event organisers for what he described as a lack of fairness. He noted that despite flagbearer aspirants contributing financially and logistically to the success of the conference, they were neither acknowledged nor offered a platform to speak during the event.
“I don’t have a problem with the former Vice President speaking at the event, but his decision to move around the inner perimeter and wave at delegates was problematic,” he remarked, suggesting that the gesture amounted to political campaigning under the guise of party unity.
Steka did not hold back in questioning the current leadership of the NPP, particularly the role of the General Secretary. He called for transparency in the party’s internal processes and asked whether the leadership could guarantee a clean and credible register for the upcoming internal elections.
“These are the peculiar things the General Secretary should be dealing with,” he asserted.
His comments add to growing internal scrutiny of the NPP’s rebuilding efforts following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. The conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values”, was seen as a key moment for reflection and restructuring. However, the aftermath has revealed underlying tensions as various factions within the party jostle for influence and direction.
