Tech Clash: Apple Denies Favoring ChatGPT Over Musk’s Grok in App Store

Tech giant Apple has dismissed accusations made by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who alleged that the company’s App Store favors OpenAI’s ChatGPT over his AI platform Grok and other competing assistants.
The controversy erupted after Musk suggested on social media that Apple’s app review and ranking processes gave an unfair advantage to ChatGPT, potentially stifling competition in the growing artificial intelligence app market.
In a statement released on Thursday, Apple firmly rejected the claim, stressing that its App Store guidelines are designed to ensure fairness and equal treatment for all developers.
“We apply the same review standards to every app, regardless of the developer or technology behind it,” Apple stated. “Our goal is to maintain a safe, high-quality user experience without favoring any particular product.”
Musk’s Grok, developed under his xAI venture and integrated with X (formerly Twitter), is positioned as a direct competitor to ChatGPT and other conversational AI tools. The public exchange has fueled debates about platform neutrality, competition laws, and the power of app marketplaces in shaping consumer access to emerging technologies.
While Musk’s comments have sparked discussion among tech analysts, no independent evidence has surfaced to support claims of bias in Apple’s App Store AI rankings.
