Techiman North Education Directorate receives 1,000 school furniture
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP for Techiman North and Trade Minister, handed over 1,000 chairs and desks to the Education Directorate, easing furniture shortages in 20 schools and fulfilling a key campaign pledge under the NDC government.
The Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, joined by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, officially presented 1,000 units of school furniture to the Techiman North Education Directorate. The handover aims to address the ongoing shortage of desks and chairs in the district's schools.
The event took place at the Techiman North District Assembly forecourt in the Bono East Region, with key participants including Education Directorate staff, school heads, assembly representatives, and various education stakeholders.
In remarks to journalists, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare highlighted that the initiative directly honors a pledge she made during her election campaign. She had identified the severe lack of classroom furniture as a critical barrier to quality education in Techiman North and committed to tackling it once the NDC assumed office.
“The distribution of this furniture is part of a campaign promise I made to the people of Techiman North. During the campaign season, I realized that the furniture deficit was a major challenge facing the Techiman North Education Directorate, and I promised to help eradicate it when the NDC came to power. That is what we are witnessing here today."
She assured constituents that more support is on the way. “We are handing over 1,000 chairs and desks to the Education Directorate, and I want to assure the people of Techiman North that plans are far advanced to procure additional chairs and tables for learners in the district". She said.
Hon. Elizabeth Ofous-Adjare further urged schools and pupils to handle the new items responsibly. “I kindly ask everyone in the beneficiary schools to maintain these desks and chairs properly so they can benefit generations of learners for years to come,” she appealed.
Accepting the items for the Directorate, District Education Director Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim described the moment as highly encouraging and perfectly timed. He noted that inadequate seating has long hindered effective teaching and student engagement, but this generous supply will ease the pressure considerably.
He added that the furniture will reach around 20 schools, with each institution set to receive a minimum of 50 pieces.
“Today is a very good day for the Techiman North Education Directorate. We have been challenged with inadequate chairs and desks to support teaching and learning activities for our learners, but with the provision of these chairs and desks, this challenge will be reduced.
“About 20 schools will benefit from the distribution of this school furniture, with each school receiving at least 50 pieces. We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and our DCE, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson." He said.
Representing the headteachers from the receiving schools, Mark Yaw Adusi, Headteacher of Jama Timponim D/A School, conveyed sincere appreciation to the MP, the DCE, and the District Assembly. “These chairs and desks will greatly boost classroom comfort, focus, and overall learning outcomes in our communities,” he stated on behalf of his colleagues.
Overall, the contribution is poised to transform learning environments in public basic schools throughout Techiman North, fostering better concentration, more effective instruction, and improved academic performance for students.
